When visiting the Maasai Mara you are likely to see the famous Big Five: lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo. Especially lions are common here, and have grown relatively accustomed to their two-legged visitors, which makes them easier to spot. The Mara Plains are teeming with wildebeest, zebra, giraffe, impala and Thomson's gazelle. Also cheetahs, hyenas and jackals are seen regularly in the reserve. In the Mara River large amounts of hippos and crocodiles are enjoying their lives - the crocodiles are especially happy in July and November when thousands of wildebeest migrate across the river causing a sumptuous feast for the hungry crocodiles. Birdlife in Maasai Mara are abundant and diverse. Species such as eagles, ostriches, storks and vultures are among the more than 50 different birds of prey. Maasai Mara's most famous sight is the Great Migration, a great animal migration event that takes place in July and August every year.

Birdwatcher's can enjoy over 400 species of bird that are not found in northern Tanzania, and the river, spectacular gorges, and majestic trees are especially appealing to photographers. As Tanzania's second largest park, Ruaha has large herds of buffalo, elephant and gazelle. The concentration of elephants is some of the largest in Tanzania. The Great Ruaha River is the main feature of Ruaha National Park providing magnificent wildlife viewing on the banks. The river also provides much of the electricity to Tanzania through a hydroelectric dam at Kidatu.

Stone Age Sites
Isimila Stone Age Site
Isimila Stone Age Site is an Acheulean site where tools, stone artifacts and bones were found in a dry bed that was once a shallow lake. The site appears to have been a watering hole and a place to hunt for early hominoids. Home to the only intact set of Stone Age tools, in the deposits of Isimila central valley there are several lithic tools, often associated to rests of big wild Mammals, especially hippos, the usual preys of Paleolithic hunters. Similar archaeological area also includes an interesting geosite consisting of a deep canyon characterized by imposing pinnacles and erosion towers creating an environment of extraordinary charm. The site can be easily reached from the town of Iringa, where you can spend the night in various kinds of hotels and eat in the several town restaurants.

Olduvai Gorge
This site is significant in showing increased developmental and social complexities in hominids. Evidence of this is shown in the production and use of stone tools, which indicates the increase in cognitive capacities. Evidence also indicates the practices of both scavenging and hunting which are highlighted by the evidence of gnaw marks predating cut marks, and comparisons on percentages of meat versus plant in the early hominid diet. Furthermore, the collection of tools and animal remains in a central area is evidence of increases in social interaction and communal activity.

Murchison Falls National Park
Murchison Falls National Park lies at the northern end of the Albertine Rift Valley, where the sweeping Bunyoro escarpment tumbles into vast, palm-dotted savanna. First gazetted as a game reserve in 1926 and is Uganda's largest and oldest conservation area, hosting 76 species of mammals and 451 birds. The park is bisected by the Victoria Nile, which plunges 45m over the remnant rift valley wall, creating the dramatic Murchison Falls, the centerpiece of the park and the final event in an 80km stretch of rapids. The mighty cascade drains the last of the river's energy, transforming it into a broad, placid stream that flows quietly across the rift valley floor into Lake Albert. This stretch of river provides one of Uganda's most remarkable wildlife species. Regular visitors to the riverbanks include elephants, giraffes and buffaloes; while hippos, Nile crocodiles and aquatic birds are permanent residents

Lake Tanganyika
Lake Tanganyika, in eastern Africa, holds many records. It is the longest freshwater lake in the world; it is the second deepest lake of the world; it is also the second largest lake of eastern Africa. The lake flows into the Congo river system and its shores are steep. Lake Tanganyika is famous for being home to almost three hundred and fifty species of endemic fish. Strong winds blowing from the mountains cause the lake water to circulate and the plankton in the lake, unable to move against the current, serve as source of food for the abundance of fish found in the lake. Not only does the long and narrow water body offer a variety of activities like diving, snorkeling and swimming, the fertile lands in the Lake Tanganyika Zone, are home to national parks; they provide a visitor with close personal encounters with nature

RWANDA
Kigali Genocide Memorial Center
Kigali Genocide Memorial Center is perched on one of the many hills that surround Rwanda`s capital city. It's a pleasant looking modern building surrounded by gardens. the exhibit is frightening as it leads up to those fateful three months where over a million people were killed. The exhibit illustrating the propaganda aimed at vilifying Tutsis, sets the tone. After this, you see rooms filled with human bones, lots of heart wrenching piles of small skulls and femurs. There's video footage of rape and slaughter, personal accounts of horrific loss. Glass cases house machetes, clubs and knives used to kill thousands within a mile radius of where you are standing. You get to see accounts of heroes who risked their lives to hide people and saved women from getting raped. After the genocide, the refugee camps where half the population had fled to, were repeatedly attacked. Tutsi's were still being hacked to death in Rwanda years later, by the Interahamwe from bases in DRC refugee camps.

Akagera NationalPark
Akagera combines well with Nyungwe and the Volcanoes national parks to offer a great safari element as it is home to many large plains game species as well as species restricted to the papyrus swamps such as the Sitatunga and the sought-after Shoebill Stork. Notable plains game include elephant, buffalo, topi, zebra, waterbuck, roan antelope and eland. Other antelope are duiker, oribi, bohor reedbuck, klipspringer, bushbuck and impala. Of the primates, olive baboons, vervets and the secretive blue monkey are seen during the day, with bushbabies often seen on night drives.Of the larger predators only leopard, hyaena cand side-striped jackal are still present and although lion once occurred throughout Akagera, the population was wiped. Plans are underway for the reintroduction of lion, as well as black rhino in 2015, which will restore Akagera’s ‘Big 5’ status, Akagera is an important ornithological site with nearly 500 bird species. The rare and elusive shoebill shares the papyrus with other rarities such as the exquisite papyrus gonolek and countless other water birds that inhabit the wetlands in large numbers.
